NCDMB to partner SON to promote local content drive

THE Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, is seeking to collaborate with the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON, for the development of the Nigerian Content.

Simbi Kesiye Wabote, Executive Secretary, NCDMB, made this known during a courtesy visit to Farouk A. Salim, Managing Director/Chief Executive of SON at his office in Abuja recently.

Wabote, who was accompanied by the management staff of the board, said that difficulties in maintaining/setting a uniform standards for locally produced/manufactured equipment, materials, products and goods that were generally acceptable by all players in the Industry were some of the major challenges facing the Nigerian Content Development drive.

Wabote said that the NCDM Board was seeking to collaborate with SON in four key areas of; Certification of equipment, materials, products, goods and services utilised in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry.

• Set-up a uniform standards for locally produced/manufactured equipment, materials, products and goods that are generally acceptable by all players in the industry.

• Improvement in measurement accuracies for locally produced/manufactured equipment, materials, products, goods and services.

• Circulation of information relating to standards in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry.

He expressed optimism that the collaboration will chart a new course for the development of the Nigerian Content, particularly in the area of setting uniform standards for locally manufactured equipment, materials, products, goods and services utilised in the Oil and Gas Industry.

Responding, the SON boss thanked Wabote and his team for the visit and promised to work closely with the Board to achieve the purpose of the collaboration.

He also agreed to set up a working committee for NCDMB and SON as soon as possible and train the NCDMB staff to further strengthen and build a cordial relationship between the two agencies of government.

The NCDMB has since inception in 2010 by the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development, NOGICD Act, continued to achieve great strides, especially in the oil and gas industry to ensure that the Nigerian local content goals are met.
