THE Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, has trained 200 youths from across the nine Niger Delta Region States in the country in Fabrication  and Welding and has equipped them with tools and financial support to be independent.

During the closing ceremony of the 2023/2024 training program, managing director of NDDC, Samuel Ogbuku, noted that capacity building and human resource development are among  the strategic plans of the commission and that the Niger Delta region requires Human resource development due to years of neglect.

He spoke through his chief of staff, Obegha Oworibo and explained that the training was born out of the desire to provide that, and bring youths of the region into  mainstream of the Nations Oil and gas industry.

He said: “NDDC is a child of necessity brought about by the age long neglect of Niger Delta region. Those who might have seen the NDDC master plan may agree with me that capacity building and Human resource development is one of the strategic plans of the Commission. Judging from the many years of neglect of the region, the people require Human capacity development to upgrade their current level of knowledge,  while those who have none will acquire some.

“This training for fabrication and welding is born out of the desire of the Commission to bring youths of the region into the main stream of the Nations Oil and gas Industry.  The Oil Industry is the main stay of the Nations Economy and Oil is mainly gotten from the Niger Delta region therefore the youths of the region must be adequately equipped with knowledge and Skills to favorably Compete in the Industry”

“This programmme focused on the foundation of welding, which is fillet welding under the International Institute of Welding and Assistant Welder under the National Skills qualification framework.  The training has been a blend of both International and National guidelines. I am convinced that with this Program NDDC has been able to inculcate the basic welding skills that will provide daily living for all beneficiaries”

“To assist in doing this, NDDC has donated some welding equipment Comprising of a welding Machine,  toolbox, and a cash price of One Hundred thousand Naira each to support the Independent practice of Beneficiaries”

Also speaking at the event, the Lead Consultant and Chief trainer of the Program, Chief Solomon Edebiri, explained that welding is the bedrock of Engineering, one of the most relevant skills needed for human existence, and he Commended the Commission’s Commitment to Skill acquisition.

He said” Welding as we say in the industry is the bedrock of engineering, it is the skill that cuts across the spectrum of every sector from Oil and gas, Construction, Manufacturing, Telecoms, Production to Maintenance. It has been adjudged one of the most relevant skills needed for human existence. “

“Skill is an assured single global currency that allows you to settle anywhere in the world.  It is a most certain route to address the Illegal Migration among our Youths seeking greener pastures outside the country. it is therefore Commendable to note the Commission’s Commitment to welding Skills Development “

Director, of Commercial and Industrial Development, NDDC, Nosiri in his remark thanked the managing director of the commission, Samuel Ogbuku, for approving the commencement of the training after assuming office and urged Beneficiaries not to sell off their starter Pack but put it good use as it will help them earn a Living.

He further expressed appreciation for the role of the Management and staff of the various trainees that participated in the programme including Mudiame International Institute Port Harcourt for imparting knowledge to the youth.
