NDDC trains 28 physically challenged persons in Edo

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) on Wednesday began a 14-day Skill Acquisition Training Programme for 28 Physically challenged persons in Edo.
Mrs Theresa Patrison, the Coordinator of the NDDC Skill Acquisition Programme in Edo told newsmen that the programme was organised in patnership with other Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) to empower people living with disabilities in the state.
Patrison said that the training was to enable them acquire necessary skills for self-employment in order for them to earn a living
She explained that the programme was also to enhance Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSME) with its main objective of strengthening the economy of the Niger/Delta region.
“It will help the beneficiaries become job creators instead of job seekers, they will also learn how to manage their business properly.
“The programme is going to be a 14-day intensive training programme specifically for the physically challenged persons in Edo,” patrison said.
According to her, at the end of the training, starter-packs will be distributed to participants according to the skills they have acquired.
Patrison noted that paticipants would be trained in Bead making, Photography, wig making, shoe and bag making, Head tie,(Auto Gele) manicure and pedicure, makeup and mobile handset repairs among others.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that NDDC is a Federal Government’s agency established with the sole mandate of developing of the Niger Delta region.
The NDDC skill acquisition training programme was initiated through the Niger Delta Regional Master Plan (NDRDMP) to address policies for economic development in rural and urban areas of the region.(NAN)
