THE National Directorate of Employment (NDE) on Monday began the training of 2,000 unemployed youths on cosmetology, welding and electrical repairs in Rivers.
The NDE State Director, Mr Nnamdi Asomuoha, disclosed this during the opening ceremony of the training in Port Harcourt.
Asomuoha said that the NDE had identified 2000 youths to be trained in each state out of 76,000 unemployed persons that would be trained in the 36 states of the federation.
He said that 1400 women would be trained in cosmetology, while 600 men would be trained in welding, electrical repairs among others.
The director said that the essence of the training was to ensure that unemployed youths were trained in skills to reduce youth restiveness and unemployment in the country.
Asomuoha said that the Federal Government had recorded a lot of achievements through skills acquisition in the previous training.
He urged the participants to take the training serious.
“The Federal Government has mapped out N1,000 for each participant to transport you to your destination after the training and you will be empowered to start your own business after training.
“So, this is the reason you have to be very serious in this training,” he said.
The director urged the trainees to make sure every training given to them in any area would not be in vain.
He encouraged them to make sure they settle down at the end of the training and make judicious use of the opportunity.
Asomuoha assured the participants that they would get every benefit accrued to them from the Federal Government during and after the programme.
Mr Felix Kpegasin, Deputy Director of Skills Acquisition, also urged the participants to make sure that they were properly documented during the training.
Kpegasin said that the agency would issue a card to identify each participant through out the training period.
Mr Alphred Udoh, Head Rural Employment Promotion Department in NDE, said that NDE had trained many people on different skills to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country.
He said that the NDE has been involved in the training of people on how to grow crops, birds, fish among others, Udoh said.
Mrs Sarah Nwachukwu, CEO of the Great Concept, and one of the trainers of the participants, also advised the participants to take the training very serious.
Nwachukwu said that she was trained and empowered in a training like this.
She said that she would train the participants on how to make Bar soap, detergents, painting, body cream, hair cream, liquid soap, perfume, face powder, among others.
Miss Tracy Ake, one of the participants, applauded the Federal Government for giving them the opportunity to be trained.
Ake said that the training would be a great relieve to her and many other youths that had been idle in their different homes.
” I am so happy and on behalf of other participants here, I say thank you to the Federal Government and the administration of our President Muhammadu Buhari,” she said. – NAN
