THE National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has commenced skills acquisition training for 100 youths in Kebbi State to make them self-sufficient.

Speaking at the beginning of the training in Birnin Kebbi, the Director-General, NDE, Alhaji Abubakar Nuhu, advised the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the opportunity to become self-reliant.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training covered both modern and traditional skills with a view to giving the beneficiaries the opportunity to become self-employed and employers of labour.

The D-G, who was represented by the Director of the agency in Kebbi State, Mr Anbianto Amoss-Francis, said about 1,450 youths were expected to benefit from the training nationwide.

He said the essence of the training was to reduce the level of joblessness amongst the youth by converting their youthful agility to productive ventures.

Amoss-Francis urged the participants to consider the training as a platform or a path to self-actualisation.

The Director, Training, Isa Audu, represented by his Deputy, Ibrahim Ladan-Argungu, said 50 youths would be trained in mordern trades while 50 would be trained in traditional ventures

A cross section of the participants applauded the efforts of the Federal Government for initiating the scheme, assuring that it would certainly reduce idleness among the youth. (NAN)
