NDE trains 65 artisans, school leavers in business skills in Bauchi

THE National Directorate of Employment (NDE) began a five-day basic business training for 65 artisans and school leavers in Bauchi State on Tuesday.
State Coordinator of the NDE in Bauchi State, Mr Lawan Yaya, said the training would sharpen and broaden beneficiaries’ horizons and enhance their capacity to succeed in their chosen businesses.
He represented the Head of Department, Small Scale Enterprises at the NDE, Ms Chikodi Ike, at the opening of the training.
He said the training was organised as part of NDE’s efforts to equip beneficiaries with rudimentary business skills and empower them with knowledge that would make them stand out in their business fields.
He stressed that the NDE conducts similar trainings to reduce unemployment and poverty within the limits of its resources.
“Research has shown that most Nano/micro business operators succeed better when they adopt best business practices learnt during business management trainings.
“This is because during such exercises, they acquire financial management knowledge, which sparks creativity and critical thinking in them; it provides knowledge about markets, and helps them to identify entrepreneurial values.
“Another advantage is that it gives opportunities to share experiences with fellow micro operators as well as with professionals attending the training, and also help trainees to recognise opportunities,’’ he said.
He called on the beneficiaries to take advantage of the training and get the best out of it, adding that they would be taught different forms of businesses and legal responsibilities.
He highlighted other topics to be taught as record keeping, marketing, management of workers, purchase and stock control, cash management, business ethics, and costing of products and services among others.
“Be willing to learn something new and make sure you are present at all lectures. Do not entertain any form of distraction throughout this training exercise as this may jeopardise the desired benefits,’’ Yaya said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malam Isa Ibrahim lauded the Federal Government and the NDE for the training and promised to make effective use of skills acquired. (NAN)
