THE Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC, has commenced payment to depositors of Heritage Bank, which had its banking license revoked by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on June 3, 2024.

According to a statement by the NDIC, the Corporation has paid the insured deposits of five million naira, N5,000,000, maximum per depositor within four days of the bank’s closure.                This was achieved through Bank Verification Numbers, BVN, linked to alternate accounts in other banks.

As of August 12, 2024, the NDIC has paid approximately 82.36% of the total insured deposits.                                                           However, depositors with balances exceeding five million naira have only received the initial insured sum, while the remaining balances will be paid as liquidation dividends upon realization of the defunct bank’s assets.

The NDIC is urging depositors who have not received payment to come forward for verification. This includes those with post no debits, PND, instructions, no BVN, or no alternative accounts in other banks.

The Corporation is also working to recover debts owed to the defunct bank and realize its assets to pay uninsured deposits and other claimants.
