NDIC educates students in 6 schools on financial literacy

THE Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) on Monday in Ilorin educated students in six secondary schools on financial literacy.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the annual programme was part of the 2023 Global Financial Literacy Day organised by NDIC to sensitise school children on financial knowledge.

Alhaji Hamza Kangiwa, the Zonal Controller of NDIC in Kwara, spoke on the theme: “Plan Your Money, Plant Your Future”.

Kangiwa explained that financial literacy would instil an early understanding of the significance of building a solid financial foundation and achieving financial stability and success from a young age.

He explained that financial literacy is vital for the achievement of financial stability, and essential to ensure that everyone has the necessary tools to manage their finances effectively and achieve their financial goals.

He sensitised the students on investment budgeting, emergency funds, saving for goal actualisation, investment and donating for positive societal impact, among others.

Hamza further encouraged the students on the importance of developing financial literacy as a life skill.

Also speaking, Mr Mohammed Isa, a staff of NDIC, explained that the programme was an annual programme organised by the corporation in its various locations across the zone.

According to him, the corporation has 10 zonal offices, with the Headquarters in Abuja and Lagos leg.

“We target schools by catching them young, we encourage them to inculcate the culture of saving.

“The essence of the programme is to let them know how to save money and have that financial discipline.

“Financial literacy is all about enlightening the people about their finances and how they can make use of it for their own betterment,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that some of the schools that participated in the programme included Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, Ilorin; Government Girls Day Secondary School, Oko-Erin; and Baboko Community Senior Secondary School, among others. (NAN)
