NDPC inaugurates committee for application, implementation of Data Protection Act

THE Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) had inaugurated a national committee for the General Application and Implementation Directive (GAID) of the Nigerian Data Protection Act (NDPA).

Dr Vincent Olatunji, National Commissioner of NDPC was reported to have inaugurated the committee on Wednesday in a statement issued by Mr Itunu Dosekun,Head of Media.

Olatunji, while inaugurating the committee said it was part of the steps they were taking to ensure smooth compliance procedure under the NDPA.

The work of the committee, he outlined to be  “addressing providence guidance on technical and organisational measures data controllers and data processors are expected to take in order to ensure privacy of data subjects.

“They will work to ensure data security and data sovereignty.

“Furthermore, the GAID will provide clarity on the definition of critical terms and concepts such as Child Consent, Data Subjects’ Rights, Lawful Basis of Data Processing, Registration of Data Controllers and Data Processors, and Cross Border Data Transfers among other functions,” he said.

The committee comprised of eight members and would be chaired by Mr Babatunde Bamigboye, the commission’s Head, Legal, Enforcement and Regulations.

The committee would also be Co-Chaired by Mr Tokunbo Smith of the Association of Licensed Data Protection Organisations of Nigeria.(NAN)
