THE Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), is set to construct a 132/33 Kilovolts (KV) transmission substation in Shendam Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau.
Gov. Caleb Mutfwang disclosed this when he presented a Certificate of Occupancy (CofO) for a land earmarked for the substation to Ms Jennifer Adighije, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the company on Friday in Jos.
According to the governor, the landmark project is aimed at extending electricity transmission from Lafia in Nasarawa State to Shendam and the Southern and Central parts of the state.
Mutfwang also said that the initiative would stimulate industrialisation and enhance business activities across the state.
“This substation will address the longstanding shortage of electricity faced by residents of the southern and central parts of the state.
“The substation will support the smooth commencement of the Special Agro-Processing Zone by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and attract private sector investments to our state.
“Plateau has the potential for generating wind and solar energy and what we are doing is in line with the Electricity Market and Energy Corporation Laws, which enable states to generate and sell electricity to others,”he said.
Responding, Adighije commended the governor for the giant step and his commitment to transform Plateau’s industrial landscape.
She assured the governor of NDPHC’s readiness and commitment to execute the project within specification.(NAN)
