THE National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), has warned public and private schools across the country to adhere strictly to the guidelines of conducting public examination to avoid sanctions.
The Executive Secretary of NSSEC, Dr Iyela Ajaji gave the warning while monitoring the ongoing National Examination Council (NECO) in Abuja on Wednesday.
Ajayi said the essence of the monitoring was to ensure that schools followed the rules and regulations guiding public examinations.
“The laws setting up the commission mandate it to monitor public examinations, especially WAEC, JAMB and NECO.
“The candidates writing the exams are our product and so we are interested in monitoring their progress from the first day they are enrolled in their schools up to the point of writing their final examination and certification.
“We feel it is important for us to come out and see the extent to which our products are coping in terms of writing the examination,” he said.
The executive secretary explained that the examination bodies must live above board to erase the notion on the credibility of our examination by foreign institutions.
“You must also realise the fact that in the past, there were these allegations that foreign institutions questioned the credibility of our certificate.
“We want to make sure our students are not involved in examination malpractices.
” I am happy to inform you that from all we have observed today, no single case of examination malpractice was noticed.
“This means we are confident that this certificate issued by NECO, WAEC and other public examination bodies will be recognised nationally and internationally,” he said
Also speaking, Mrs Eucharia Ameanoyikwa, NECO Supervisor at the Federal Government Boys College Apo (FGBC), said the examination was hitch-free.
Ameanoyikwa commended the school for giving the enabling environment to the students to write the examination.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that management of NSSEC monitored the examinations at the FGBC Apo, Model School, Maitama and Funtaj International School, Gudu all in Abuja.
The examination which began on June 13, is expected to end on July 25. (NAN)
