PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has expressed gratitude to millions of Nigerians who have been sending good wishes and praying for his health and well-being in mosques and churches throughout the country.
Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, February 21, saying that the president was immensely grateful for the prayers, show of love and concern.
Nevertheless, Adesina quoted the president as saying there was nothing to worry about his health condition. “President Buhari wishes to reassure Nigerians that there is no cause for worry,” the statement said.
The president’s spokesman added in his brief statement: “During his normal annual check-up, tests showed he needed a longer period of rest, necessitating the President staying longer than originally planned.”
President Buhari went on medical vacation on January 19 and wrote to the Senate that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo would act in his absence.
Prior to the expiration of the 10 day-vacation, the president wrote a letter to the Senate asking for indefinite vacation thereby raising speculations about his health condition.
However, the Presidency has repeatedly said Buhari is hale and hearty, but unwilling to disclose the nature of his illness.
