NEMA distributes relief materials to 6,000 victims of banditry, floods in Kaduna State

THE National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) presented relief materials to victims of the 2022 floods and banditry attacks in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Thursday.

Represented by Alhassan Nuhu, Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, Malam Mustapha Ahmed, Director-General of NEMA said the intervention was to assuage the sufferings of the victims.

Ahmed said the intervention became imperative after the agency’s assessment of the level of damage caused by the flood and banditry attacks.

He acknowledged the efforts of the state government which provided the victims the first line of support.

He said 500 households were affected by floods in Kaduna State, while 1,000 households in Brinin Gwari Local Government Area were victims of banditry.

The director-general assured of NEMA’s readiness to further collaborate with the state government and other relevant stakeholders to distribute relief materials.

Malam Sani Dattijo, who canvassed for the assistance, commended NEMA for the swift delivery of the items.

Represented by Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, he pledged that the items would be transported to Birnin Gwari Local Government Area speedily to reach the beneficiaries.

Dattijo assured the victims of an end to the banditry while assuring that he would ensure that NEMA kept to its mandate of disaster prevention.

Receiving the items, Malam Abdulahi Amir, Chairman, Brinin Gwari Local Government Council, appreciated NEMA and assured that the council would ensure that the materials got to the victims.

Amir observed that security situation in the area had been brought under control and residents now moved about freely without security escorts.
