New CP assumes office in Gombe State

THE new Commissioner of Police in Gombe State, Mr. Ishola Babaita, on Monday, assumed duty with a promise of good service delivery to residents of the state.

Addressing a news conference at the police command headquarters in Gombe, Babaita said he would ensure that crimes were nipped in the bud for the state to remain calm and peaceful.

He said that policing under his leadership would be intelligence-led, community-based while police visibility would be improved to cover necessary locations so as to prevent crimes.

The commissioner said the command would, in synergy with other sister security agencies, fight crime and criminalities, and warned criminals in the state to “turn a new leaf or relocate from the state.”

Babaita who assumed office as the 20th commissioner of police in the state said he would ensure that human rights were not infringed upon.

The commissioner said: “We will protect citizens’ rights through due process.

“I want to warn that any suspects arrested for rape, unnatural offenses, violence against women and children (girls) will not go scot-free as but be made to face the wrath of the law.”

He also warned policemen to desist from any corrupt act, saying “there will be zero tolerance to corruption as I will not tolerate any of my officers whether senior or junior involving in corrupt practices.”

Babaita urged Gombe state residents to assist the law enforcement agents with vital information.

He gave the assurance that the command would treat all complaints with human dignity and justice to build confidence between the police and the people.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN, reports that CP Babaita who hails from the Ilorin Local Government Area of Kwara, took over from CP Maikudi Shehu who retired recently. (NAN)
