MRS Pauline Olaye, the new Zonal Commanding Officer(ZCO), Zone RS1, Kaduna of the Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC), says additional unit command will be created in the zone.

Olaye, an Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, shortly after her maiden zonal operators meeting.

The meeting was held with the Commanding Officers and Special Marshals of Kaduna, Kano, Katsina States and Jigawa.

She explained that due to a spike of accidents in the zone, road safety awareness would be taken to the grassroots through increased visibility and logistics support .

“We are aware of all that is happening in Kaduna zone, basically the accident rate is increasing.

“So, we are trying new strategies to mitigate the accident and the fatalities that are occurring. We will ensure that we work hard to reduce it,” she said.

The ZCO stated that there would be continuous public enlightenment as people need to be reminded about traffic rules while prosecuting violators to serve  as deterrence to others.

According to her, some drivers who caused accidents recently due to speeding had been apprehended and prosecuted.

She  said that the zone would  organise a town hall meeting with road users and other stakeholders to ensure that roads were safe and loved ones stay alive.

“We are begging you to obey traffic rules, so that we can be able to save our loved ones from danger.

“Don’t over speed, don’t overload , don’t carry passengers on trucks full of items.

”When there is a small maneuver, these people will fall from the truck and die,”she warned. (NAN)
