THE Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State Chapter, has debunked the alleged inequitable distribution of newly recruited teachers in the state.
The chapter’s chairman, Mr Raji Oladimeji, denied the allegation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Monday.
Oladimeji said there was no way 5,600 teachers would be equitably distributed to the schools.
According to him, the newly recruited teachers were distributed based on schools’ enrollment and the number of existing teachers.
“They look at the number of teachers already posted to each school, using this to post the new teachers.
“So, based on this, the government cannot post the teachers equally,” he said.
He said the Seyi Makinde-led administration had performed a rare feat by recruiting teachers in their thousands, having earlier recruited 5,000 secondary school teachers in 2021.
“We are not there already but I think the governor has done so much for us.
“He is a massive recruiter in the education sector.
“Throughout Nigeria, we have never seen a government, or any state government, do this in their education sector as we see it happening in Oyo State,” Oladimeji said.
He said NUT was ready to partner with the state government in training the new teachers.
According to him, the orientation and sensitisation of the new teachers will lead to better outcomes and performance in the education sector. (NAN)
