Newly elected Ondo lawmaker promises youths development

FESTUS Adefinranye (APC-Ondo) one of the newly elected members of the House of Representatives has promised to work toward the development of Nigerian youths.

Adefinranye, who would represent Ileoluji/Okeigbo/Odigbo Federal constituency of Ondo State at the lower chamber said this when he spoke with newsmen shortly after he received his Certificate of Return from Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Wednesday in Abuja.

“I am a man of human capital. I like to engage youths, because I believe if youth in a community is engaged there will be no crisis in that community.

“ So I will try to improve on humans capital to ensure that youth of my community is engaged and empowered. I believe God will help me,” he said.

The former lawmaker at the State House of Assembly, said that his journey to the National Assembly started in 2015 and got completed 2023.

Adefinranye said he understood that the expectations from his constituency was very high and promised not to betray the trust his community bestow on him.

“I will surely work to fulfilled the purpose while they voted for me. I will truly try my best,” he said.

He described the 2023 general election as one of the best in Nigeria.

“This election is one of the best elections INEC has conducted in this country because with Bimodal Voter

Accreditation System (BVAS) nobody can rig. People can always vote once their name is there. So the election is free and fair.

“In all the states most especially Ondo State, it was very competitive and the best candidates won in all the constituencies.

“So, I think we can still improve on it and I believe our election is improving gradually. I know by the next elections there will still be improvement on it,” Adefinranye said.

Also speaking, an elected member representing Mikang/Qua-aupan/Shedam constituency (Plateau/PDP), Isaac Kwallu, also pledged to work on youth employment, entrepreneurship training, agricultural and sports development.

Kwallu said that for youths to be off the streets they must be empowered and given opportunity because the white collar jobs were no longer there.

“Entrepreneurship training is going to be my focus because there is no white collar jobs. To get this young people of the street that is what they will need.

“In Shedam local government, we have majorly agrarian community. We are going to leverage on how we provide farm input to them to increase their farm produce and get better yields, years after years.
“Of course sport is going to be another areas of focus where the youth will showcase their talents,” Kwallu said.

The lawmaker-elect said the election in his constituency was so competitive but the people believed in his capacity to represent them.

“The people stood their ground. The people believed in my capacity to be a good representative on their behalf at the National Assembly.

He expressed confidence that PDP would win the governorship election in Plateau.

“Yes Labour Party won the state in presidential election, but if you look at the NASS we have two senators and members of the House of representatives, that shows that Plateau is PDP state,” he said.

Mr Dekeri Anamero, elected to represent, Etsako Fed. Constituency (APC/Edo), who dedicated his certificate to people of his constituency, promised to do everything within his power to better their lots.

“We have a number of issues bedeviling our people including, erosion menace . That is one area that needed urgent attention.

“We have three local governments in the federal constituencies. Two of them, Etsako West and Etsako Central are badly affected by erosion.

“These are the areas that need urged attention. By the grace of a God I will draw the attention of the federal government to this,” he said.

Anamero promised to support laws that would improve farming, education and mining sectors in his constituency and state.

“Also Etsako is one of the economy hubs of Edo state. We have solid minerals, mining going on everywhere if you go to Etsako, you will see mining of astral and limestone.

“I am going to pursue with vigour defending solid minerals law that is pending at the NASS to ensure that our people get value for what God has blessed them with,” he said. (NAN)
