THE Nigeria COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) has distributed Information and Communication Technology (ICT) gadgets to 565 Small and Medium Scale Entreprises (SMEs) in Adamawa.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the programme seeks to expand access to livelihood support and food security services, and grants for poor, vulnerable households and businesses.
The State Project Manager, Mrs Aishatu Bawa stated this at the inauguration of the distribution exercise in Yola on Thursday.
She listed the items to include 64 units of labtop computers, 545 Point of Sale Machines (POS), 545 Ipads, 565 internet routers, 20 units of anti virus devices and 565 google suits.
She said the beneficiaries registered under the programme via its portal across the 21 local government areas of the state, adding that they were selected based on merit.
According to her, the initiative is aim to expand ICT development and boost the economic fortunes of the beneficiaries through ease of doing businesses at the grassroots.
The State Coordinator of the programme, Mr Kwaji Duguri said the programme targeted 62,443 poor and vulnerable individuals registered in 1,073 SMEs.
He warned against diversion of the equipment, and urged the beneficiaries to ensure its effective utilisation by engaging in productive activities.
Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri, represented by his Chief of Staff, Prof. Maxwell Gidado, lauded the gesture, adding that ICT was key to sustainable development in agriculture, commerce, trade, health, security, education and defence.
“We will continue to support programmes targeted at wealth creation, economic prosperity and self sustainability through jobs and income generation” he said.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Roseline Tumber describd the initiative as timely and desirous, especially considering the impact of ICT on business development.
She said the support would go a long way to encourage SMEs growth in the state.(NAN)
