NG domain name is Nigeria’s pride online – NiRA
Business
THE Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) on Thursday described Nigeria’s country code Top-Level Domain (ccTLD), .ng domain, as the nation’s critical resource in the digital space.
The President, NIRA, Mr Adesola Akinsanya, said this at the NiRA Executive Board of Directors (EBOD) and Management Training held in Lagos in collaboration with the Lagos Business School (LBS).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a country code top-level domain (ccTLD) is an Internet top-level domain generally used or reserved for a country, sovereign state, or dependent territory identified with a country code.
The domain name for Nigeria is .ng domain.
Akinsanya said that the .ng domain extension was unique to Nigeria, and could give businesses a strong local identity.
He said that businesses, especially those that relied on local customers, could establish trust with their customers using the domain name.
The NiRA president said further that Nigerians and businesses should adopt the ng domain name because it gave brand’s special recognition both on and offline.
“Using a ng domain name can help your business stand out in the Nigerian and global market. It is a great way to differentiate your brand from competitors and establish a unique identity.
“A ng domain name is easier to remember, which can make it more likely that customers will return to your website in the future.
“It also instantly communicates to internet users that your business is located in Nigeria, which can be especially helpful if you operate in a niche or industry where location is important to customers,” he said.
According to him, Google and other search engines prioritise local content in their search results, hence using a ng domain name can help improve your website’s search engine ranking for local searches.
The NiRA president emphasised that the country must fashion out ways of increasing the ng domain name adoption, adding that it was our national pride in the digital space.
Speaking on the NiRA EBOD Training, Akinsanya said it represented a milestone in advancing digital leadership.
Highlighting the significance of its collaboration with LBS, he said, “the NiRA EBOD/Management Training at LBS underscores our commitment to fostering a robust digital ecosystem in Nigeria.
“It will equip our leaders with the expertise to address complex digital challenges, especially in accounting and financial management while harnessing the immense opportunities of the digital age.”
The NiRA president said that equipping leaders with cutting-edge knowledge and strategic insights through the programme would contribute to building a resilient and innovative digital ecosystem.
He added that it would drive sustainable growth and societal development, especially from the NiRA perspective.
“The NiRA Executive Board and Management Training spans a series of intensive interactive sessions designed to address critical challenges and opportunities in the digital domain.
“The training programme emphasises the importance of strategic vision, ethical decision-making and resilience in the face of digital disruptions,” Akinsanya said.
NiRA is the Registry for the .ng Country Code Top Level Domain.
It is a not-for-profit, non-governmental self-regulatory body established by the order of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Internet community to manage Nigeria’s Country Code Top Level Domain. (NAN)
