WITH the aim of achieving diversity, equity and inclusion, the Nigerian Gas Association, NGA, has established a DEI Study Group, which will partner with the Women In Energy Network, WIEN.
This is in line with the NGA’s objective to pioneer change, amplify voices and create pathways for women to excel in their careers.
According to the statement by the NGA, the association also aims at promoting enhanced early-stage access for girls in Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths, ‘STEM’ subjects which will ultimately enhance the technical talent pipeline for women and in the long term improve DEI statistics in the oil and gas industry.
It added that the DEI Study Group will achieve its goals by encouraging industry players to amongst other initiatives, create more internship opportunities for women, enabling them to gain practical experience and contribute to the industry’s development.
The NGA believes that combining the expertise of WEN’s vibrant community and the NGA’s industry leadership will drive positive change, promote gender parity, and elevate the role of women in shaping the energy landscape.
Leveraging on WIEN’s extensive network and its commitment to empowerment in bequeathing a more equitable and diverse energy sector, the Study Group will further champion the NGA’s drive for a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive oil and gas industry in Nigeria and in so doing, help to interrogate the status quo, identify relevant issues, challenges and opportunities.
The DEI Study Group will be chaired by Chichi Emenike, while Eyono-Fatayi-Williams, Vice President, Gas for WIEN will be Vice Chairperson of the group.“This collaboration makes the efforts of the NGA to achieving a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive oil and gas industry in Nigeria even more attainable as it brings together the collective knowledge, resources, and networks of both organizations to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the energy sector,” it added.
