Plan International, a non-governmental organisation, has advised state governments to implement Community Health Information Management System.

Dr Kabiru Atta, the Head of health programmes of the organisation, gave the advice on Wednesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the 61st National Council on Health.

Atta said the NGO was set up to promote human rights across the globe and ensure that all humans had access to their rights.

He explained that the NGO began working in 2012 to ensure the formal implementation of the Community Health Information Management System.

“We began working in Bauchi and Sokoto with the support of Global Affairs Canada, an arm of the Canadian Government.”

Atta further revealed that the NGO had worked with stakeholders to develop a harmonised Community Health Information System.

He said the aim was to develop a central platform where all governments would utilise the tool and make it available online.

He urged states to approach the Federal Ministry of Health for technical support in Implementing the system.

According to him, the system, if implemented nationally, will provide a robust national data which would capture community level data.

“The data will be used in decision-making and accountability within the health sector, which would assist in achieving universal health coverage,” he explained.

NAN reports that the Kano State Government is hosting the 61st National Council on Health meeting from June 19 to June 22 at the State House.

The meeting has the theme “the Second National Strategic Health Development Plan: A Roadmap for Achieving Universal Health Coverage.” (NAN)
