THE Oluyede Mercy Foundation International, an NGO based in U.S., has distributed free items worth millions of naira to some health facilities in Ondo and Ekiti states.
The Founder, Mrs Omoduni Bodunde, while distributing the items on Tuesday at Ibule-Soro in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, said the organisation was founded to help health facilities with delivery materials and other support.
The items distributed were: delivery instruments, infusion giving sets, IV fluids, essential drugs, injections and consumables.
Bodunde said that the gesture was in remembrance of what her mother, Mrs Mercy Oluyede, went through in 2001 and survived.
According to her, the foundation started in 2019 with the aim of providing health needs of the less-privileged, aged, widows, orphans and all forms of indigent people in Nigeria and other parts of the world.
Bodunde said being an experienced nurse and midwife based in the U.S. decided to use her mother’s experience to touch the lives of people to improve their health status.
She added that researches had shown that many Nigerians died due to inability to access basic health needs.
Bodunde, who, promised plans were under way to see that more health facilities benefited from the foundation, urged well-meaning Nigerians in diaspora to always remember their homes and the indigents by giving back to them.
Speaking on behalf of other benefiting facilities, a senior nurse from Basic Health Center, Ibule-Soro Ifedore local government area, Mrs Florence Adejuwon, appreciated the foundation for the good gesture.
Adejuwon said that the items donated would improve the health status of the people, reduce mortality rates and enhance performances of the health workers in the benefitting facilities.
She pledged on behalf of other beneficiaries that the materials would be used for the purpose they were meant for.
Also speaking, Chief Babayemi Olabode, the Oyekanmi of Ibule-Soro, commended Bodunde for remembering the less-privileged, saying some women in her position would rather go into child slavery and women trafficking than helping
indigent.
Olabode, however, urged the founder to monitor the use of the items by setting up monitoring team to visit the benefitting facilities and ensure they were used for the purpose meant for.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 15 health facilities benefited from the health items: 10 in Ondo State and five in Ekiti.
The facilities are Basic Health Centre Ibule-Soro, Basic Health Centre Isharun, Basic Health Centre Lota, Ile- Oluji, Basic Health Centre, Odigbo, Comprehensive Health Centre, Ore and Basic Health Centre, Odode Idanre.
Others are Basic Health Centre, Okejebu Idanre, Basic Health Centre, Adegbola Akure and Basic Health Centre, Danjuma Akure.
The benefitting facilities in Ekiti are Basic Health Centre, Orin Ekiti, Basic Health Centre Omuo Ekiti, Basic Health Centre, Iroko Ekiti, Basic Health Centre Ayegunle Ekiti and Basic Health Centre Ora Ekiti.(NAN)(
