AN Adamawa based NGO, Goggi Zumunchi Development Initiative (GZDI), has donated milling machines to 86 women, as part of its economic empowerment initiative.

Hajiya Aisha Yakubu, the Executive Director of GZDI, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Yola on Thursday.

Yakubu said the group’s mission was to give succour to vulnerable members of the society, including the Internally Displaced Persons IDPs.

“We assist the IDPs who are mainly affected by the Boko Haram insurgency,” she said.

Yakubu disclosed that the initiative, was with support from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

The director explained that the beneficiaries were carefully selected across the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.

“We took a painstaking job in selecting the beneficiaries who are mostly vulnerable female head of households.”

According to her, government agencies, traditional and community leaders, youth and women groups, were all involved in the selection process.

“We have trained the beneficiaries on effective use and maintenance of the machines, and we also provided accessories in the event of any mechanical fault,” Yakubu said.

She thanked ECOWAS for the financial support for the programme, while appealing to the beneficiaries to make good use of the machines.

In a related development, the group also embarked on feeding no fewer than 100 vulnerable households in Michika and Madagali LGAs. (NAN)
