AN NGO, Progressive Impact Organisation for Community Development (PRIMORG), said it had partnered with Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to sensitise Nigerians on the significance of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).

The Chairman of the NGO, Agbonsuremi Okhiria said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.

Okhiria said the NGO, in collaboration with INEC, would observe the second quarter of the CVR in order to sensitise the public on the importance of the exercise in the FCT.

The chairman said the partnership became necessary because of the recent meeting the organisation held with market men and women in the FCT.

He said the meeting revealed that a large number of Nigerians were yet to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

“The PRIMORG will support INEC in  sentisation and dissemination of relevant information to Nigerians on the ongoing Voter Registration,’’ he said.

He noted that a credible voting is a fundamental requirement to achieving credible elections.

‘’It is on this basis that we are partnering with INEC to support the commission to provide reliable voter registration.

“Over 40 per cent of participants at the town hall meeting we held with market men and women said that they did not have permanent voter cards.”

He promised that the NGO would deploy its members to observe the exercise from across the six area councils of FCT in the 32 centres.

Okhiria has appealed to stake holders to comport themselves well during CVR and after the exercise in the interest of peace and sustainability of democracy in the country.

He also advised Nigerians of voting age who had not registered in the exercise to visit any registration centre to get registered.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that INEC commenced the second quarter of CVR on April 3. (NAN)
