A Non Governmental Organisation(NGO) Good Old Friends, on Friday presented gift items to some nursing and expectant mothers in Ikorodu, as well as the maternity centre taking care of them.

The NGO made the presentation at Addis Ababa Primary Health Care Centre, Ikorodu, at an event tagged ‘Operation Fill-The-Gap’.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a long bench for patients and standing fans were presented to the health care centre, while different child care materials were given to nursing and expectant mothers.

The chairman of the group, Mr Ademola Alejo, said that the idea was to support government in the health, humanitarian and disaster management sector.

Alejo urged Nigerian elites who are capable not to leave everything in the hands of government but to give back to the public, considering the level of hardship.

“We started this move long time ago, we came together as friends and tasked ourselves that we needed to contribute to the betterment of humanity,

“Since we started, we have disributed many items to the needy but now it is the turn of the health sector,” he said.

The chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Mr Wasiu Adesina, who was the chairman of the occasion, commended the NGO for its effort and sought more of such support from the public.

“I am very impressed with what the NGO is doing in terms of the gift, I will ensure they are honoured, ” Adesina said.

He used the opportunity to remind the people to collect their Permanent Voter Cards in preparation of the forthcoming general elections.

The Medical Officer of Health, Dr Ramat Odesesan, thanked the group for the items and promised to put them to good use,  noting that the items would make their job easier.

Mrs Margret Orakwe, a nursing mother, appreciated the group for the provision and called on well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the kind gesture.(NAN)
