NGO trains 300 women on various skills

THE Caring Family Enhancement Initiative, CAFE, an NGO has trained 300 women in various skills acquisitions across the state.
The founder of the NGO and wife of the governor, Ebelechukwu Obiano, said that each of the participants would be given equipment based on their areas of specialisation to start off businesses on their own and become self-reliant.
Speaking during the the12th graduation ceremony of the trainees, carried out by her NGO to support the governor in the development effort of the state and diminish crime, she added that since the inception of the administration in August 2014, the NGO had graduated and empowered no fewer than 5,500 indigent women, widows and youths from the 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
The governor’s wife, however, commended Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, individuals and organisations for partnering with her NGO in touching lives.
The commissioner for women and children affairs, Ndidi Mezue, who spoke at the event, said amid the COVID-19, the governor’s wife empowered indigent people in various communities in spite of the fact that election was fast approaching.
She extolled her NGO for its role in complementing the efforts of the government by empowering women to be self-reliant.
The commissioner promised that the ministry would continue to support the NGO and all other groups willing to contribute to the development of the state.
Earlier in his welcome address, the programme coordinator and deputy press secretary to the governor, Emeka Ozumba, eulogised the wife of the Governor for her passion in helping the destitute through CAFE.
“In spite of the way our lives have been altered by COVID-19, she was determined to conclude the empowerment training which commenced in 2020,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Director, Chike Okoli Centre for Entrepreneurial Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ngozi Ijeoma, said the trainees were privileged to be taught by professors during their stay at the centre.
She noted they were taught Bookkeeping and proper records, safety measures and general studies.
The event, which was held at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka featured equipment distribution to the beneficiaries.
The equipment distributed included 85 Gas Cookers, 80 Sewing Machines, 60 hairdressing equipment, 50 Soap Making equipment, 15 laptops and 10 Bead-Making equipment.
