The Christian Aid, an international Non Governmental Organisation (NGO), has organised a training workshop for journalists and other critical stakeholders on flood management in Jos.

The workshop has the theme, “Training on Information Management for Disaster Risk Reduction, Early Warning and Response for Flooding”.

Speaking at the event, Mr Bamidele Fagbite, the organisation’s Senior Programme Coordinator, said the training was timely, adding that lack of adequate information had contributed to flooding in some parts of the country.

According to him, the workshop would equip media practitioners with the best practices on flood prevention and early warnings and response.

“This training is aimed at strengthening disaster preparedness and disaster risk reduction, early warnings and response in Nigeria with focus on flooding.

“It will also build the capacity of media practitioners on media relations; essentially to increase awareness on flood prevention.

“It will as well build and foster relationship between the media and non-media practitioners in the country,” he said.

Fagbite explained that the training was organised under its Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) being funded by the European Union (EU).

He said that the project was being executed in 27 communities across nine Local Government Areas, three each, in Benue, Plateau and Kaduna States.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workshop had participants from different media organisations, government agencies and traditional rulers from Plateau and Kaduna States. (NAN)
