THE legal department of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA, has debunked reports that Ambassador Mohammed Dauda, has been reinstated by the Court of Appeal as Director General of the Agency.

 A. H. Wakili, Head of the agencies Legal Department in a statement on Thursday June 22, 2023 described the report as false and misleading.

According to Wakili, Dauda was never a substantive Director General of the National Intelligence Agency, but was only acting in that capacity temporarily, after the tenure of Ambassador Ayo Oke and a brief acting stint by Ambassador Arab Yadam until Ambassador Ahmed Rufai Abubakar was appointed the substantive Director General by formal President Muhammadu Buhari.

He contended that the matter decided by the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal related to the dismissal of Mohammed Dauda as a Director of NIA was for several infractions and breaches.

He accused Dauda and his cohorts of planting the false story just to mislead the public.

“The substance of the present appeal for which judgment has been passed relates only to procedural matters in respect of the dismissal. The case in respect of the infractions and breaches is still pending for adjudication.

“Meanwhile, a true certified copy of the judgment of the Court of Appeal is being awaited, to be studied for informed further action,” he added.
