NICO canvasses promotion of indigenous languages

THE National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) in Niger on Friday said that it had concluded arrangements to teach some indigenous languages to preserve and promote the nation’s cultures.

The Coordinaror of NICO in Niger State, Mrs Iyabo Ndukwe, said this in a statement in Minna.

She said that the agency would organise a four-week programme in this regard regard from Aug. 5 to Sept. 4 in  Minna.

Ndukwe said languages such as Nupe, Gbagyi, Kamuku, Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo would be taught during the exercise.

She advised those in the public and private sectors to nominate participants to the 2019 Nigerian Indigenous Language Programme.

NAN reports that NICO, an agency of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, was established by Decree 93 of 1993 with the aim of protecting, preserving and promoting Nigerian cultures. (NAN)
