THE National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) is to sensitise Nigerians on the importance of embracing Nigerian culture in a public lecture slated for March 26, 2019.
The Acting Executive Secretary of the institute, Mr Louis Eriomala, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Tuesday by Mr Caleb Nor, the Media Assistant to the Executive Secretary.
Eriomala said that the public lecture was to further enlighten Nigerians on areas that could be latched on to promote the nation’s culture and derive some economic benefits.
According to him, this will also sensitise Nigerians on the strategic importance of culture in the promotion and sustenance of good governance and the nascent democracy.
He said this will also bring about some sense of cultural direction among the citizenry.
Eriomala said that they would appreciate better the need for Nigerians to embrace culture, cherish its inherent values and accord it a pride of place in all aspects of their developmental agenda.
He said that the theme of the programme would be “Maintenance Culture: A Panacea for Sustainable Infrastructural Development in Nigeria”.
” NICO is doing this in furtherance of its mandate for effecting a sense of cultural direction and meeting the challenges of social integration, unity, peaceful co-existence, self-reliance, and national development.’’
He said that the lecture would hold at Peace and Conflict Resolution Complex, African First Ladies Peace Mission Secretariat Conference Hall, Abuja .
“The public lecture series was conceptualised as a vibrant quarterly programme to serve as a platform for intellectual discourse on culture.
