The Commissioner for Youths and Sports Development in Niger, Emmanuel Umar, on Tuesday, said the state was ready for the 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) scheduled for Benin.

“Talking about the NSF, Niger is good to go. We are ready. What we are doing now is trying to put finishing touches,” he told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna. But the most important thing is that we are good to go,” Umar added.

Similarly, Baba Sheshi, the Director of Sports at the state Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, told NAN that the state’s athletes and officials were ready. “We are prepared for the NSF, and we will continue to train until we depart for the festival.”

NAN reports that the 2020 NSF is scheduled to hold from Dec. 3 to Dec. 18. Sheshi added that the state’s athletes have been training under the supervision of their various coaches.

He said the athletes and coaches while doing this were also observing the COVID-19 protocols, as outlined by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) guidelines on safety. “The measures were put in place to protect athletes and officials during the festival.” (NAN)
