THE Niger Pilgrims Welfare Board, on Wednesday, said it had rolled over 1,165 prospective pilgrims from 2020 to the 2021 Hajj Operations.

Malam Umaru Maku Lapai, Executive Secretary of the board, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen,  shortly after he met with the state House of Assembly Committee on Religious Affairs, in Minna, on Wednesday.

He said the rollover was of those who paid for the 2020 Hajj, but were unable to perform the Hajj due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Lapai disclosed that the board had commenced preparations, as well as remittances to the National Hajj Commission (NHC), adding that a budget had been given to the board and it was working towards it.

“The national body has given us the go-ahead to prepare for the 2021 Hajj and I believe God is in control of everything,” he said.

He said the board was liaising with the NHC to provide facilities that would address the issue of COVID-19 vaccination, adding that the board was ready for the 2021 Hajj Operation.

The executive secretary noted that priority would be given to those who registered in 2020, and urged intending pilgrims to check for their names for clarification.

Also, Malam Abubakar Umaru, Chairman of the House Committee and member,  representing Mashegu, said the committee would support the board for a successful 2021 Hajj Operation by the state. (NAN)
