Niger State Assembly solicits support for victims of windstorm in Kontagora

THE Niger State House of Assembly on Tuesday, passed a motion calling on the State Management Agency to come to the aid of victims of ‎windstorm in Rafin Gora village of Kontagora Local Government Area.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the windstorm that occurred on Monday accompanied by heavy rainfall, claimed seven lives and destroyed over 200 houses in the village.

In a plenary session presided by the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Husseini Ibrahim, passed the resolution following a motion moved by Hon. Nura Garba (Kontagora II).

He told the House that the July 2, windstorm and heavy rainfall, had destroyed many houses in Rafin Gora village.

According to him, property worth millions of naira were destroyed including houses, cattle and other animals as well as farm produce.

He also said that seven lives were lost during the disaster.

Garba said the incident had affected social and conomic and activities of the villagers.

According to him, if necessary measures and assistance are not provided, it could lead to joblessness and increase in criminal activities in the village and its environs.

The lawmakers, thereafter, unanimously adopted the motion and set up a committee to visit and console with families of the victims.
