SECURITY was beefed up at Eagle Square, in the Three Arms Zone of Abuja for the 62nd Independence Military Parade.

A News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Police patrol vans, manned by armed policemen, were stationed at strategic locations around the Eagles Square while stop and search was ongoing.

Vehicular movements were restricted and several vehicles were also turned back by security operatives.

NAN reports that officers of the NSCDC were also seen on patrol with K9 dogs.

Ms Comfort Okomanyi, FCT Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), in an interview with NAN, said that the Eagle Square and the  Federal Capital Territory (FCT) at large is so far peaceful.

The PRO said that men of the NSCDC were on standby, surveillance and undercover duties to ensure the city was adequately secured.

She said that the operatives had also been deployed to the city’s Critical National Asset and Infrastructure to prevent attacks and vandalism hoodlums.

She further said that the Corps will continue to work with other security agencies in ensuring Nigeria’s 62nd anniversary was peaceful during and after.(NAN)
