Nigeria Communication Commission boss hails deployment of 5G Technology in Nigeria

THE Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Communication Commission, NCC, Prof Umar Danbatta, has hailed the deployment of 5G Technology in the country.

Speaking at the 2023 Nigeria DigitalSense Forum on Internet Governance for Development on Thursday in Lagos, Dambatta noted that data is critical to the digital economy and stressed the need to prioritize building robust legal frameworks for data governance.

Represented by Chukwudi Diugu, Head, New Media and Information Security of the NCC, Dambatta said in his keynote address at the forum that “as we embrace the transformative potential of 5G, we must also prioritize safety concerns”

According to him, the amount and speed of data generated using 5G technology are unprecedented and “as such, the need to always prioritize consumer privacy, transparency and ethical data use”.

In his address, the Chairman of 2023 NDSF, Prof. Adeshina Sodiya, harped on the need for school children and youths to embrace the use of 5G network.

Prof. Sodiya, who is the President, Nigeria Computer Service, advised students not to spend all their precious time on Facebook and other social media platforms.

He explained that 5G data network is already in about seven different states in the country and that it will require more awareness and information in order for more people to make good use of it.

He also tasked the youth to assist their old parents by showing them how technology can improve their lives.

The CEO of Wisdom Computer Tech. Francis Uzor, in his presentation highlighted the roles of every citizens in the deployment of 5G technology in the country and stressed the importance of collaboration with the government agencies in the promotion of safety of information in the cyber space.

Uzor urged students to broaden the scope of usage of the Internet by undertaking courses or training in Data Science, Website design, machine learning, software engineering, python programming, Java, Database administration and cyber security.

This year’s Nigeria DigitalSense forum on Internet Governance for development, organised by ITRealms, had ‘5G: Data Governance, Safety & Security in Nigeria as its theme.
