Nigeria Is Not Ready For CHAN – Oliseh
Sports Briefs
–
SUNDAY Oliseh, national coach of the Nigeria’s Super Eagles, on Wednesday, January 6, admitted his team was not yet ready for the 2016 African Nations Championship after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Angola in a warm-up match in Pretoria on Wednesday.
Nigeria took the lead from the penalty spot after 84 minutes through Bartholomew Ibenegbu, before Angola drew level four minutes later. The Angolans had missed a penalty kick in the first half.
After the encounter, Oliseh told Africanfootball.com: “I am happy with the way they played, but we’re not yet ready for CHAN.”
For instance, he said: “We played the game without strikers because our two top strikers (Tunde Adeneji and Chisom Chikatara) are injured and we also have to get used to the high altitude.”
Besides, the coach complained about getting the team to cope with high altitude, but expressed the hope that his players would soon get used to it before the tournament starts in Rwanda on January 16.
“That’s the reason we had to be here (South Africa). It is largely for the altitude training and adjustment that we chose here and so we should be set weather-wise by the time we arrive in Rwanda,” Oliseh said.
