THE Super Eagles has moved up three places in the grading released by FIFA, world football ruling body, but remain 16th in Africa. The country is now in the 67th position in the latest rankings released on Thursday, August 11.

The Eagles remain the 16th ranked African side behind Algeria, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Cameroon, Congo DR, Cape Verde, Mali, Congo, South Africa, Uganda and Guinea.

In July’s grading, the Super Eagles dropped nine places to 70th, their poorest drop in 2016. The top twenty teams in the world remain unchanged owing to a quiet month of international football, which means that Argentina remain top, followed closely by Belgium, Colombia, Germany and Chile.

Two of Nigeria’s 2018 FIFA World Cup, Group B opponents, Cameroon and Zambia are ranked 54th and 91st, respectively in the updated ranking. A new ranking will be published by the world governing body’s official website on September 15, 2016.

The third round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers for Nigeria starts on October 3 against Zambia.
