Nigeria Prays, an annual prayer chain created by former Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon is set to hold a conference aimed at praying for the country’s 2019 general elections.
A statement by the General Superintendent, Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, made this known on Thursday in Abuja.
Kumuyi said that the programme would draw up sufficient prayers and heart-cry for Nigeria “which is undergoing testy times and which planned to hold elections in three months’’.
He urged saints of God within and without to not give up on their fatherland because what men could not achieve through human efforts, could always be accomplished when the redeemed of the Lord prayed unto Him for succour and divine intervention.
He said that it was not only essential for believers to consistently intercede on behalf of the nation as Daniel did for Israel while in captivity, but government officials at all levels should always be invited and drawn to God’s presence.
Kumuyi added that it was as a salutary acknowledgement and acceptance of God as the only fitting solution to Nigeria’s gargantuan challenges.
He also noted that God would honour the collective prayers and intercessions of Nigerians for the country and heal its wounds.
Kumuyi said that the highlights of the service would include powerful prayer sessions and a goodwill message by Gowon.
The message at the service would be delivered by Kumuyi, the host pastor.
It will be recalled that the Convener of Nigeria Prays, Gowon had on several occasions remarked that Nigeria’s problems could be solved faster and better with spiritual weapons rather than physical ones.
Governors of Lagos, Bayelsa, Edo and Ekiti states, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, Mr Seriake Dickson, Mr Godwin Obaseki and Dr Kayode Fayemi, respectively, will grace the occasion.
Also, Mr Jide Sanwo-Olu, a governorship candidate in Lagos state will attend the intercessory service along with other distinguished personalities from all parts of the world.
The programme, which will hold on Nov. 25 at the Deeper Life Bible Church Headquarters, Gbagada, Lagos, will be broadcast globally. (NAN)
