THE Department of Petroleum Resources is asking experts and stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to focus on ways to promote health, safety and environment compliance in the industry. Sibeudu Onyebuchi, deputy director, Health, Safety and Environment, HSE, Division, DPR, stated this at a media briefing in Lagos on Wednesday, November 23, to announce the forthcoming 17th International HSE Biennial Conference to engender the HSE awareness among stakeholders in the industry.
Onyebuchi is the chairman, conference management and planning committee of the event, which is slated for November 28 to 30 with the theme ‘Integrated Security Approach, New Strategies and the Way to Go in the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry.’
She described the conference as the biggest forum to bring the HSE experts from both within and outside the country to share new ideas and experiences. According to her, the conference provides a platform for the HSE professionals in the Nigerian oil and gas industry and other interested participants to meet and share experiences relating to the HSE issues arising from exploration and production.
She said stakeholders would also share values on downstream and other related activities in the oil and gas sector. According to her, the aim is to promote and entrench a safe and environmentally sustainable oil and gas industry in Nigeria. “The conference has recorded series of successes over the years, which include the development of the environmental guidelines and standard for the petroleum industry in Nigeria.”
