Nigeria Thrash Korea 4-0
Sports Briefs
–
AFTER their loss to Brazil 4-2 in their first match of the on-going FIFA U-20 World Cup, the Flying Eagles of Nigeria in the early hours of Thursday, June 4, defeated North Korea 4-0.
At the first stanza of the encounter, the Flying Eagles failed to find the back of the net, but shortly after the beginning of the second half, the Korean side could no longer hold back the Eagles.
A brace by Godwin Saviour and goals too from Kingsley Sokari and Isaac Success gave the Flying Eagles their victory over North Korea. Hungary had earlier defeated the Korean team 5-1 at Stadium Taranaki in New Plymouth, New Zealand venue of the tournament on Monday, June 1.
“We have not got into our groove yet, we are only picking up gradually,” Manu Garba, coach of the Nigerian team, said.
Garba praised the Koreans for stepping up their game against the African champions after they fell woefully to Hungary on Monday. “They gave a good account of themselves, they were lot better than they were against Hungary as they possessed the ball very well but they have to improve in their finishing,” he said.
Garba said he would have loved to have more than four goals on Thursday clash against Korea DPR.
Nigeria will take on Hungary on Sunday in their final Group E match.
