AS the national female basketball team, D’Tigress gets set to begin camping in preparation for the Women Olympic Qualifying Tournament, WOQT, scheduled for June 13 to 19, in France, the team is expected to play two warm up matches. Scott Nnaji, chief coach of the team, said the first of the two matches will be against Turkey in Istanbul on May 27 and 28, which comes up about three weeks after they resume camp in Abuja.

The second game will be a week to the Olympic qualifier against Argentina on June 8 and 9, in France. Nnaji told FIBA.com that the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, is doing its best to meet the needs of the team and put it in a position to succeed.

The Nigerian girls have been drawn in Group C of the qualifiers along with Belarus and South Korea and they will open their WOQT campaign on June 13, against Belarus. He described the warm-up games against Turkey and Argentina and also playing in the 12-team qualifier in France as highly important to measure the team’s potential.

Nnaji who is expected to reveal the team’s preliminary squad in early May, admits he is leaning towards making changes from the team that went 6-2 in Yaounde, Cameroon, last October. “We expect the players to come to camp ready to face the challenge ahead. We have a list of players that have shown interest to be part of the team, and we hope they will make it to the camp,” he said.
