THE Nigeria Army (NA) today, Thursday 11 July 2024 engaged with the students of Diasies Academy, showcasing its numerous contributions to national security and peacekeeping efforts across the globe.
The event, which took place at the Army Headquarters Conference Hall aimed to educate the young minds of the Academy on NA efforts and commitment in maintaining peace and stability in the country.
Addressing the students, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja emphasized the army’s commitment to protecting the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He also highlighted the army’s participation in international peacekeeping missions and its efforts in combating insecurity and terrorism as well as provision of support to civil authorities.
The COAS represented by the Director Plans, Army Headquarters, Brigadier Adebayo Babalola noted that the visit will positively influence the perception and attitude of the youth towards the army and sharpen their orientation about serving their nation in future.
He described the military as a noble profession that requires discipline and patriotism and charged the students to place top priority on their academics in order to earn a place in the Armed Forces.
The team leader and Director Diases Academy, Mrs Joy Obiora, extolled the NA for its sacrifices and efforts in protecting the territorial integrity of Nigeria and tackling contemporary security challenges. The Director also lauded the leadership role of the COAS, adding that the visit will be indelible in the hearts of the students.
Mrs Obiora noted that the visit provided the children, whom she described as future leaders, the opportunity to interact with their role models, while calling on Nigerians to support the NA in achieving its constitutional mandate.
The event featured a documentary on the NA’s history, as well as career prospects and a robust interactive session, according to a release by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, director, Army Public Relation.
