The Nigerian Army says it is providing free medical outreach to indigent residents in Yobe for two weeks.
The Commanding Officer of the task force brigade, Major Emmanuel Oqua, said this at the commencement of the exercise at Rigan-Koggo, Nguru Local Government Area of the state.
Oqua said the medical team of 27 Task Force Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Buni Yadi, is led by Brig.-Gen. Kabiru Garba.
“The team has embarked on the two weeks medical outreach across Yobe to establish civilian-military cordial relationship,” he said.
Addressing the community, Lt. NA Bako, one of the medical doctors, enjoined the people to prioritise their personal and environmental hygiene, saying: “prevention is better than cure”.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Zanna Dallatuwa, the District Head of Rigan-Koggo, expressed happiness for the kind gesture.
“This programme is very important; I am delighted to see my subjects being medically examined and treated for free of charge.
“You can see how they came out en masse to receive and benefit from this free medical outreach,” the traditional ruler said.
Dallatuwa however urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the medication given to them by the army.
Some of the beneficiaries equally expressed appreciation to the army for the gesture which they described as “first of its kind’’. (NAN)
