THE Director General of the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, has said that Nigerian children will soon be watching home-made cartoons, which will be used in building and promoting the Nigerian character.

Speaking at the Minister of Information parley with Nigerian editors and Online publishers and other stakeholders on Friday in Lagos, Issa-Onilu lamented that Nigerian children had over the decades been exposed to foreign cartoons that had not helped in bringing out the true Nigerian personality in them.

He disclosed that the agency, which has been blamed for its failure to promote the Nigerian cultures and programmes of government, will soon come out with cartoons, animations and other programmes in line with the agency’s mandate.

According to the new Director General of the NOA, there is virtually no structures and equipment to work with in the agency and that a lot of work is going on to revive the agency so that it can achieve its mandate of promoting national orientation, identity and cultures.

He also said that NOA is planning to come up with indigenous social groups that will function like Boy Scouts and Girls Guide that will engage Nigerian children in their formative ages and bring out the best in them.

The Director General said that the agency would soon establish radio studios and other programmes that will explain the functions of the NOA and the programmes of the Nigerian government.
