THE Facebook account of Premium Times literally exploded on Thursday after it published an interview credited to Ebonyi State governor, Dave Umahi calling for the APC to zone the position of Senate president to the South East.
The responses were horrendous and mainly from people of the South East who vehemently opposed and kicked against Umahi’s position.
They were united in telling Umahi that the zone didn’t need that position because “we are still building bridges across Niger, Benue and even across deserts and forests before it will be our turn.”
The responses were literally to mock Umahi and his fellow APC members from the zone who berated the zone for supporting the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Umahi and the Senate majority whip, Orji Uzor Kalu had vehemently stood against Obi and all his supporters from the South East. They argued that the zone should support the candidate of their party, APC .
They took the argument too far to insist that the Igbo was not ripe, mature and ready to produce the president. Their position was that the Igbo should rather take more time to build political bridges for now.
However, after the APC was declared winner of the presidential election, the two who had won senatorial elections started canvassing to be made senate president, as according to them, that would ensure equity because they are from South East.
Umahi said: “So, for inclusiveness, unity of the country and for everybody to be carried along, the South East deserves the position and so far, nobody has been able to say this is the reason why the South East should not be given that position and I am pleading for that.”
This statement angered hundreds of readers from the region who mocked him.
One of the responses said “We from South East disagree. Giving it to you or any other angling for it doesn’t mean anything to us. Since you all frustrated Obi, you fight for your personal benefits and not the good of south east. We oppose giving any of you that post. APC should say NO.”
How many times have we the southeast people told these people that we are gathering material to build bridges to the north and west. The bridge is at the design stage more donations are welcome. Umahi just wait, it is not yet our turn.
It is not our time in the South-East. Let it remain in the North.

Tambuwal’s action at the last PDP’s convention should be an eye opener to our people but they are beclouded with their selfish interest. We are watching.
It must go to the North, they have more competent lawmakers than the Southeast. Umahi, please don’t bring your bigotry here. If the North can’t have it, let it go to the Southwest, let them have both President, Senate President and even SHoR.

The entire southeast couldn’t even contribute 10% of Tinubu’s rigging success and that’s why we boldly don’t deserve that 3rd position. The North should have it all, preferably a Northern Muslim. I guess I have spoken the mind of majority of average south easterners

We’ve not built enough bridges, flyover and drainage canals across the country. We need to come together and agree that the South East is ripe for inclusion in the scheme of things in Nigeria. This number three position should go to the North-West who gave our our Eye-Neck select his maximum votes. Let’s not mix sentiments and politics because politics is a serious business.
Umahi you’re m**, Southeast doesn’t deserve anything, we’re not prepared yet for either number one, two or three. We’re still building bridges.

South East is not ripe for the number three seat. In fact, South East are not part of Nigeria. They are just borrowing.

Let’s build bridges first, the unity of the country is more paramount than regional interest. Your region has also had their fair share on the position for fairness and equity, North West and South South should be given more consideration.
We are not ripe for any position, we are still packing sands and stones to to build culverts and bridges to other zones and even to other countries, the north can occupy all the positions including the ministerial appointment and note, it must be a Muslim.
The southeast should continue consulting maybe by 2035 they may be ripe for it but for now Umahi and Kalu should stop disturbing the peace loving Northeast and West senators because it’s their birthright.

South East have taken that position almost five times. We therefore, don’t deserve it. Ebonyi State in the person of APA who had taken the position before. Any South East person campaigning for the president of the senate is wasting his time, energy and resources, such person shall return in shame.
If you don’t like it, “go to court”.
What goes around must surely come around. Remember someone from the South East shamelessly said that we the South Easterners are not yet ripe for the number 1 seat in the country, why then are we now interested in the number 3 seat? We’re still building bridges it’s not yet our turn.

Peter Obi wanted to become a president at the same time Umahi, Orji Uzo Kalu, Ogbonnaya Onu and Rochas Okorocha wanted to become the president but the big difference is that Peter Obi went for the presidency while other were begging for presidency and those begging for it didn’t even win the presidential primary elections of their party.
Umahi decamped to APC, tongue-lashed the Igbo and South East extraction just to appease Aso Rock merchants.
He shook hands with Buhari several times with white agbada, chidishly thinking he would get the presidential ticket. The Ebonyi born engineer now the outgoing governor, forgot his region is an endangered specie in Nigeria. Southeast Youth Council rejects calls to zone 10th Senate presidency to southeast saying EQUITY AND FAIRNESS does not matter in governance. What matters in governance is COMPETENCE AND STRUCTURE.
The group also affirmed their position that southeast have not built enough structure (aka Julius Berger bridge) to wrestle the position and therefore, anyone calling for zoning of any kind of position to southeast should be seen as INHALER OF POWDER and methamphetamine.
