NiMet predicts 3-day cloudiness, thunderstorm from Friday

THE Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has predicted three days od cloudiness and thunderstorm from Friday to Sunday.
NiMet’s weather outlook, released on Thursday in Abuja, predicted cloudy skies over the northern region in the morning hours with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe and Yobe states.
According to NiMet, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, Kebbi, Borno, Kaduna, Katsina and Kano states.
“Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the North central region with chances of morning thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Niger and Kogi states.
“Further into the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, Plateau, Benue, Kwara and Kogi states.
“Cloudy morning is envisaged for inland states of South and Coast with prospects of thunderstorms and rains over parts of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Anambra, Ondo, Edo, Ogun, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta and Rivers states,” he said.
The agency anticipated thunderstorms over parts of Ondo, Edo, Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states later in the day.
According to NiMet, Sunny skies with few patches of clouds are anticipated over the northern region in the Saturday’s morning hours.
It forecast chances of thunderstorms over parts of Gombe, Yobe and Jigawa states.
The agency envisages thunderstorms over parts of Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Gombe and Bauchi states later in the day.
“Cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the North central region in the morning hours with chances of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Plateau and Kwara state.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Niger and Kogi states.
“Cloudy skies are expected over the inland states and the Coastal areas of the South in the morning hours with chances of rains over Oyo, Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Delta states,” it said.
The agency forecast thunderstorms later in the day over parts of Edo, Imo, Ondo, Ogun, Abia, Akwa Ibom, Cross River and Delta states.
NiMet predicts sunny skies on Sunday with few patches of clouds over the northern region with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Taraba and Adamawa states in the morning hours.
“Later in the day, there are chances of thunderstorms over parts of Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina and Zamfara states.
“Cloudy atmosphere is expected over the North central region in the morning hours with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory and Bauchi states.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Kwara, Benue and Niger states,” it said.
According to it, cloudy skies are envisaged over the inland states and the coastal cities of the South in the morning hours.
The agency predicts chances of rains over parts of Edo, Osun, Ogun, Ekiti, Lagos, Bayelsa, Delta, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Ondo, Edo, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, Edo and Delta states.
“For areas where thunderstorms are expected, strong winds are likely to precede the rains and as such, trees, electric poles, unsecured objects and weak buildings may be felled.
“So the public is advised to be cautious. Stay indoors, especially during heavy rainfall to avoid being struck by lightning.
“All Airline operators are advised to avail themselves of weather reports periodically from NiMet for effective planning in their operations. Moderate to heavy rainfall could lead to flash flood. Public is advised to take necessary caution.”
The agency urged disaster risk managers, agencies and individuals to be proactive, to avert loss of lives and property during rainy season. (NAN)
