NiMet predicts 3-day sunshine, cloudiness from Sunday

THE Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunshine and cloudiness from Sunday to Tuesday across the nation.
NiMet`s weather outlook released on Saturday in Abuja predicted sunny skies on Sunday with few patches of clouds over the Northern region.
It envisaged prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Taraba during the morning hours.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi, Adamawa and southern Katsina States during the afternoon and evening period.
“Cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected over the North central region with chances of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Benue, Niger and Nasarawa States during the early morning hours.
“Later in the day, there are prospects of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Plateau, Benue and Kogi States,” it said.
According to NiMet, cloudy skies are expected over the inland states and the coastal areas of the South with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Cross River, Bayelsa, Ogun, Lagos and Rivers States.
The agency also forecast thunderstorms over parts of Imo, Abia, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Oyo, Enugu, Ebonyi, Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.
NiMet predicted sunny skies on Monday with few patches of clouds over the Northern region with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe States during the morning hours.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected over parts of Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Kaduna and Adamawa States during the afternoon and evening period.
“Cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are anticipated over the North central region with chances of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Niger and Nasarawa States during the morning hours.
“Progressing into the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Plateau, Benue and Nasarawa States,” it said.
The agency forecast the inland states and the coastal areas of the South to be cloudy with prospects of thunderstorms over most parts of the region during the afternoon and evening hours.
According to NiMet, sunny skies with few patches of clouds are anticipated over the Northern region during the morning hours of Tuesday.
It predicted chances of thunderstorms over parts of Kaduna, Adamawa and Taraba States during the afternoon and evening period.
“Cloudy skies with spells of sunshine are anticipated over the North central region with chances of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Benue and Nasarawa States during the morning hours.
“Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Kogi and Nasarawa States.
“Cloudy skies are expected over the Inland states and the coastal cities of the South with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Abia, Ebonyi, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States,” it said.
The agency anticipated thunderstorms over most parts of the region during the afternoon and evening hours.
According to NiMet, for areas where thunderstorms are expected, strong winds are likely to precede the rains and as such, trees, electric poles, unsecured objects and weak buildings may be felled.
The agency advised the public to be cautious.
“High temperatures are currently being observed over the country which could cause heat-stress. Public is advised to take necessary caution and coping strategies to reduce heat-stress.
“All Airline operators are advised to avail themselves of weather reports periodically from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,” it advised. (NAN)
