NiMet predicts 3-day sunshine, haziness from Monday

THE Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted sunshine and haziness from Monday to Wednesday.

NiMet`s weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja forecast sunny and hazy atmosphere over the North and the North Central region throughout Monday.

It predicted cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine in the morning hours over the inland cities of the South.

It added that there are prospects of localised thunderstorms over parts of Edo, Abia, Ondo, Ekiti, Imo and Enugu states in the evening hours.

“Cloudy conditions are expected over the coastal cities in the morning hours with slim chances of localised thunderstorms over parts of Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa state.

“Isolated thunderstorms are expected in parts of Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos and Delta states during the afternoon and evening period,’’ it stated.

The agency predicted sunny and hazy conditions over the North and the North Central region on Tuesday.

It also predicted partly cloudy atmosphere in the inland and the coastal cities of the South with prospects of morning thunderstorms over parts of Lagos and Delta states.

It envisaged thunderstorms over parts of Ondo, Abia, Edo, Enugu, Lagos, Bayelsa, and Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states later in the day.

“For Wednesday, dust haze is expected over the northern region.. Sunny and hazy conditions are expected over the North Central region throughout the day.

“Partly cloudy atmosphere is anticipated over the inland and coastal cities in the morning hours with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Lagos, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.

“There are prospects of localised thunderstorms over parts of the inland and the coastal cities.

“This is especially over parts of Edo, Ondo, Enugu, Abia, Delta, Lagos, Bayelsa, Cross River and Akwa Ibom later in the day,’’ NiMet stated

The coastal parts of the country are still at risk of flash floods and emergency agencies are expected to be at alert, it added.

The agency advised citizens and emergency agencies to be at alert and take necessary precautions as strong and destructive winds were likely to accompany the thunderstorms.

“People with respiratory issues should apply necessary caution. Airline operators are advised to get updated weather reports from NiMet for effective planning in their operations,’’ it stated. (NAN)
