President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday, May 18, sacks Saratu Umar, executive secretary of the Nigeria Investment Promotion Council

EIGHT months after her appointment, Saratu Umar has been sacked as the executive secretary, Nigeria Investment Promotion Council, NIPC. President Goodluck Jonathan, who gave Umar the matching order, did not offer any reason for the action. Jonathan has since replaced her with Uju Hassan-Baba, who will be in the post in acting capacity.

Umar was appointed by President Jonathan in November last year to head the Council. Since he lost the March 28 presidential election, President Jonathan has replaced many heads of government institutions. On April 21, Sulieman Abba, was sacked and replaced as inspector-general of Police.

Earlier it was Gbenga Elegbeleye, director general, National Sports Commission, NSC, who got the boot when his removal was announced on April 16. He was replaced with AL-Hassan Yakmut, a director in the ministry of sport. The president similarly sacked Habib Abdullahi, managing director, Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, and replaced him with Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero on Wednesday, April 29.

President appointed Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State as the new chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, on April 27.
