THE Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has promised to strengthen its partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) on street addressing policy to apprehend traffic offenders.
Mr Bisi Adegbuyi, the Postmaster General, NIPOST said in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Special Corp Marshall Unit of the FRSC in the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) on Monday in Abuja.
Adegbuyi said the development would help reduce road crashes as offenders could be easily traced when the street addressing policy was fully implemented.
The Postmaster-General said the FRSC played an important role in securing the life of Nigerians.
He called on the new Special Marshalls not to abuse the privilege rather act with utmost responsibility.
“We must not be seen to abuse power but conduct ourselves with respect and decorum,’’ he said.
Adegbuyi commended the Corp for agreeing to create the unit in NIPOST and assured the FRSC of the support and cooperation of his agency.
The Corp Marshall, FRSC, Mr Boboye Oyeyemi represented by Mr Victor Nwokolo, an Assistant Corp Marshall said the most important tool used by the FRSC was education and enlightenment.
Oyeyemi said this should also be employed by the newly inaugurated Special Marshalls of NIPOST.
“You are going to be change agents in the religious bodies you belong to, in the churches, mosque and all other bodies that you belong to.
“In your office, you are going to be change agents and that is the most important thing, education and enlightenment is one of our tools,’’ he said.
Oyeyemi said with the inauguration of NIPOST as a corporate organisation, it had the responsibility to identify with the programmes of the Corp.
He said that the corps would also look at some policies of NIPOST that would help it in furthering its work like the street addressing policy.
Dr Sini Kwabe, the National Coordinator, Special Corp Marshall said the work of the Special Marshalls was to complement the work of the regular Marshalls.
He urged the inductees to cooperate with the organisation and ensured that the name of the agency was protected.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 25 members of staff were conferred with Special Marshalls while honourary marshal was conferred on the postmaster-general. (NAN)
